Wait! Stop the press! I am literally screaming. Summer is around the corner (just under 30 days). Let’s talk about how I am getting summer time fine.
First on the list is skin. Summer skin is all about a natural, sun-kissed and even complexion. My routine for winter has been simple but effective. Double cleansing twice a day, exfoliating with an AHA based cleanser (Murad Age Reform AHA exfoliating cleanser ), bi weekly clay based masks in the form of the Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask , Aztec Indian Healing Clay and lots of SPF (Clinique superdefence spf 20 face cream ) during the day time.
Ahead of summers imminent arrival I am upping the ante this spring, starting with a twice weekly glycolic mask, extra hydration for the night time in the form of Simple Kind to Skin Vital Vitamin Night Cream. I am currently toying around with the idea of almond oil before oil also thanks to Michelle Landon. Another weapon in my arsenal will be my body shop vitamin c radiance capsules and my bodyshop vitamin c facial mist which I have long abandoned may just have to come back into play. Benefits of vitamin C include reducing the appearance of dark marks and other types of sun damage, it also helps to boost healthy collagen production which results in firmer looking skin and it also increases the effectiveness of sunscreens and SPF’s while boosting the skins defence against UV exposure.
Keeping the rest of my body moisturised will change up slightly. For the colder harsher months I have been happy to alternate between Neutrogena Deep Moisture Body lotion and The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter. However since discovering the E45 derma protect spray I will be using this throughout the summer months throughout the day morning and evening as I find the light formula doesn’t feel too greasy for hot weather and still keeps my skin feeling like silk. Literally!
In regards to exfoliation, I am currently in love with Ocean Salt from Lush, the fine particles are enough to give my skin a really good scrub and use it on dry or wet skin intensifies the scrub accordingly. The fresh fragrance of limes steeped in vodka, grapefruit and salt is super refreshing and summer appropriate, whilst the avocado butter and coconut oil provides an extra moisture hit.
