Hello my loves, it’s been a while. Welcome! I figured the sun has been beaming down a little on us this week and it was time for an update around my skincare. My skin type is combination sensitive and acne prone.
A recent foray into the brand Mario Badescu via the Beauty Bay website has seen me shake things up quite drastically. Needless to say I am loving the new routine and the results so it was only right I share with you guys.
Right so to start I always cleanse, and for days where I have been wearing makeup I remove my makeup.
I have been slightly adverse to oil cleansing or using one of those cleansing balms, so I always use a makeup cleansing wipe (shock horror I know). At the moment I flutter between B. Pure Sensitive Micellar Cleansing wipes and then the Johnsons Face Care Moisturising Wipes (tip: I always stock up when they are half price or on some type of offer – three quid for face wipes I don’t play that, no Ma’am!) For eye makeup removal I find holding my wipes under my eyes for a few seconds shifts that pesky mascara
Next up is cleansing the face. I have started incorporated an electronic brush head . This one is from Amazon and it £15 and so good for the price. In the past I have used the rio sonicleanse which is a load of trash, I bought two and none lasted longer than a month, but that’s a story for another day.
In terms of cleansers I rotate between the Shea life Black soap , Mario Badescu Acne Facial Cleanser and the Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel . All three of these provide a really great deep clean and I tend to do two cleanses, so one to take off the muck and grime of the day and then a second to further ensure my face is really clean.
Depending on how my skin feels I will then decide whether to exfoliate, for manual exfoliation I always reach for Boots Tea tree and witch hazel exfoliating scrub. On days I want a chemical exfoliation I reach for Alpha H Liquid Gold, when I use this nothing else is done and I wake up glowing.
Depending on my skins needs I use the body shop tea tree toner or the clean and clear deep cleansing lotion for sensitive skin. I love to decant this into a travel spray bottle and spray onto my cotton pads and swipe across my face and neck.
I also like to follow up and use aloe vera gel on a cotton pad, this always leaves my skin feeling super refreshed and soothed.
I am in love with the Superdrug Simply Pure Hydrating Serum and slather this on my face and neck.
On days where I feel a blemish or a spot trying to come through I stop it/them dead in their tracks with clean and clear treatment gel or the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion . Either of these ensures no spots or less visibility on them the next day. If I have to pick my favourite and the most effective I’d pick the Mario Badescu drying lotion every time.
For evenings I like a rich cream so layer Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion with some vitamin e oil. This combo leaves me super hydrated by the time morning comes.
When it comes to daytime I love nothing more than using a good moisturising SPF. My current faves are both from the body shop. The vitamin c glow protect lotion spf 30 and their Skin Defence Multi Protection Essence spf 50. I find the latter to be really good for days where it’s a little warmer and definitely see myself using this well into summer.
Face masks happen 2-3 times a week depending on how busy my schedule is. For days where I have a bit more time I mix the Aztec secret indian healing clay with Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar and some honey and aloe vera gel. This is left on my face for half an hour and then rinsed off in the shower or with a damp cloth.
A few other masks i have been enjoying from the body shop are the tea tree skin clearing clay mask (have this on this morning as I type no less!) , and their Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask which is said to be a dupe for glam glow mud masks. I haven’t tried these so can’t comment on the level of dupe however I can say this is an excellent mask that leaves pores feeling unclogged and gives a slight exfoliation when it is being removed also.
So there you have it my spring time skincare routine. I do not do all this in one day most days I cleanse tone and moisturise, but depending on how my skin feels I incorporate chemical/manual exfoliation, spot treatments and face masks as needed.
Have you used any of the items mentioned above? Is there anything I am missing or could do better? Leave me a comment below.
